Northville Public Schools is thrilled to announce the winners of the 2024 Inclusion Week T-Shirt design contest, showcasing the creativity and collaboration within the school community. The 2nd annual district-wide Inclusion Week will be held March 4-8, 2024.
The front of the shirt, a masterpiece of unity and diversity, was a joint effort led by Jessica Rohroff, Art Teacher at Hillside Middle School, along with the invaluable contributions from Mary Curran and Mallory Carmack's ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) students.
The design reflects the spirit of inclusivity by incorporating the hand shapes of all 8 students involved in the project. Jessica Rohroff shared her process, stating, "We created our artwork using all 8 students' hand shapes on transparency film. The students colored their designs with sharpies, and we used rubbing alcohol to blend the colors together. Layering the hand shapes on top of one another symbolizes our interconnectedness, and the chosen colors represent the beauty of inclusivity."
On the reverse side of the shirt, the winning design was crafted by Laura De La O Sosa, an 8th Grader at Meads Mill Middle School. Laura's design echoes the theme of inclusion, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and appreciating differences. She explained, "Regardless of what a person looks like, their background, or abilities, everyone is equally important in shaping our world and making it a better place. Together, like the pieces of a puzzle or the different shapes in Tetris, we can build a better world that celebrates and embraces our differences."
Excitement is building for the upcoming district-wide Inclusion Week which will be held March 4-8, 2024. You can order an Inclusion Week t-shirt online, all orders should be placed by February 1. All of the proceeds from the t-shirt sales will be donated to New Hope Center in Northville.
