Principal's Welcome
Welcome new and returning families to the School Year!
Please allow us to welcome you to the Cooke School website. We are a county center based program for students ranging in age from 3-26. Our students come to us from 9 districts in western Wayne County. We have three distinct programs which we offer for our students: our severely cognitively impaired program, our severely multiply impaired program, and our dual diagnosed program. Each of our departments have its unique characteristics, yet we are consistent in our commitment to providing communication, individualization, and independence for all students.
We are happily housed in Northville Public Schools and participate not only in this community, but in partnership with the communities surrounding our district to provide services for the students who come to Cooke School. We have 21 classrooms total, with 17 in our home location, and 4 satellite locations. Two of these classrooms are housed in Hillside Middle School and two more are housed in Northville High School. Our students are offered the opportunity not only to partner within our school to build peer to peer opportunities, but also when age appropriate, in the middle school and high school settings.
Our students are offered individualized services via their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and also via the differentiation which is afforded us as a center location which serves students with disabilities. However, we work closely with the state and district to provide quality academics to all of our students. Our teaching is guided by the Essential Elements of Common Core, and previously by the Extended Grade Level Content Standards. Our programs are aligned with Michigan law and offer many opportunities to transition from our program to the community.
We are proud to represent the special education programs and fine staff here at Cooke School. Our work is not only to promote individual growth, but to provide systematic, aligned curriculum, which assures that all student are making progress toward their goals, academic, social, and functional. All of our students are a treasure. We are pleased and honored to be able to work with each one of them.
Warmly,
Jennifer Bugar,
Principal
